How Does Commission Cycle Work? The 6-Step Process Explained

A lot of affiliate marketing advice starts with one instruction:

Get more traffic.

The problem is that traffic by itself does not pay you.

You need the right person to notice your content, become interested, take another step, consider an offer, and eventually buy.

Commission Cycle tries to connect those pieces into one repeatable process.

Here is the basic flow.

Step 1: Create Content

The process begins with content.

The current Commission Cycle approach puts considerable emphasis on Instagram and YouTube.

Instead of creating content only to chase views, the goal is to publish something that encourages a reaction.

That could be curiosity.

A question.

A comment.

Or a request for more information.

Step 2: Generate a Response

A response gives the marketer something much more valuable than a passive view.

It creates an identifiable expression of interest.

Someone who responds to a post has taken a small action.

That does not make them a buyer.

But it gives you a reason to continue the interaction.

Step 3: Start a Conversation

This is where the strategy becomes different from simply dropping affiliate links underneath videos.

The response can become a conversation.

Automation such as ManyChat may help organize or continue parts of this process.

But automation should support the conversation rather than make every interaction feel robotic.

Step 4: Introduce a Relevant Offer

Not every product belongs in every conversation.

The offer needs to make sense for the problem or goal that attracted the person in the first place.

That is why audience selection and niche positioning still matter.

Step 5: Earn a Commission

If the person purchases through the affiliate relationship, the affiliate can earn a commission according to the merchant’s terms.

This is the familiar part of affiliate marketing.

Commission Cycle becomes more interesting at the next step.

Step 6: Reinvest and Repeat

Instead of viewing a commission as the finish line, the model encourages reinvestment.

Money can potentially be used to improve content, tools, traffic generation, testing, or other parts of the business.

The goal is to create a loop:

Content → Response → Conversation → Relevant Offer → Commission → Reinvestment

And then the process starts again.

The Important Reality

A diagram can make a business look almost effortless.

Real execution is rarely that clean.

Some posts will generate nothing.

Some conversations will go nowhere.

Some offers will not convert.

That does not necessarily mean the model is flawed. It means each stage needs testing.

Commission Cycle gives the process a structure.

The marketer still has to make that structure work.
